Transcript
Okay, let’s take a look at the drug. Spironalactone also known as Aldactone. This is an oral medication, as you can see here, and it also comes in the topical form, the therapeutic class of, of Ayron or how the drug works in the body is a diuretic, the pharmacologic class, or the chemical effect of spiral Lacone is a potassium sparing diuretic. So SP works by inhibiting sodium reabsorption while sparing potassium in hydrogen in the nephron. We use this drug for potassium loss for hypertension edema and congestive heart failure. Some of the side effects that SP act on can cause are gynecomastia, hyperemia hyponutremia and lethargy, some nursing considerations for spiral Lacone. This drug is contraindicated in patients who have hyperemia, because remember, this is already one of the side effects, monitor your patients, intake and output as this is a diuretic and also monitor their blood pressure while on aspir Lacone the patient’s potassium level, as well as renal panel should be monitored. Be sure to teach the patient to report any side effects to their provider. So guys, spine Lacone is actually used off the label for the treatment of ASCI related to cirrhosis. So for this though, the treatment dose is a much higher than the other things that it’s indicated for. So guys, if your patient is on a high dose of this medication, do some investigating, are they on spiral Lacone for ASCI or is this dose maybe an error?
That’s it for aspiring Lacone or Aldactone now go out and be your best self today and as always happy nursing.
