Study Tools For Nifedipine (Procardia) Nursing Considerations
Outline
Generic Name
nifedipine
Trade Name
Procardia
Indication
hypertension, angina, migraines, CHF
Action
blocks calcium transport resulting in inhibition of contraction causing systemic vasodilatation
Therapeutic Class
antianginals, antihypertensives
Pharmacologic Class
Ca Channel Blocker
Nursing Considerations
• use caution in heart block, decreased blood pressure
• don’t consume grapefruit juice while taking medication
• may cause arrhythmias
• may cause elevated liver function tests
• may cause gingival hyperplasia, Steven’s Johnson syndrome
• monitor blood pressure and pulse
• monitor calcium levels
• instruct patient on taking heart rate and blood pressure
Transcript
Hey guys, let’s talk about the drug NEFE pain. Also known as Procardia. This is an oral medication. As you can see here, the therapeutic class of nee or how it works in the body is an antigen and also an tie hypertensive, the pharmacologic class or the chemical effect of ne Philippine is a calcium channel blocker nee works by blocking calcium transport. This results in the inhibition of contraction by systemic vasodilation, we use NEFE pain for hypertension, angina for migraine treatment, and also for congestive heart failure. With NEFE pain, we can see some things like arrhythmias, gingival hyperplasia, Stevens, Johnson syndrome, and also elevated liver function.
Let’s take a look at some of the nursing considerations for nee use caution in patients who have heart block and also patients who have a decreased blood pressure because of the effect of Natine. We want to monitor the patient blood pressure as well as their pulse. Be sure to also monitor your patient’s calcium levels when they are on this drug and teach the patient to not drink grapefruit juice and also teach them how to take their blood pressure and pulse. So guys I’ve actually seen NEFE used off label. Um, it’s actually made into an ointment to treat anal fishers. So they have found that amphetamine treats this issue better than nitroglycerine with less side effects. That’s it for Neen or Procardia now go out and be your self today and as always happy nursing.
