Today we’re going to be talking about APA citations.
APA citations are used for giving credit where credit is due. In order to properly cite it is important to keep track of all of the resources you use along the way of doing your research. Questions to as in order to cite include is this a Primary or secondary source? Print or online? If online record publish date and access date? Books- consider # of authors? Articles- where did you find it?
Correct citation of a journal includes the author’s last name, first intial and additional authors when noted. Next is the year of the publication in paratheses. The tile of the article, the tile of the journal, volume, issue, page range and DOI (digital object identifier) as string of numbers used to permanently identify a jounral on th web.
An entire book citation would also start with the author’s last name, first initial (year published), title of book in italics, DOI/URL/Publisher’s name.
An edited book citation would also start with the author’s last name, first initial (year published), title of chapter, editor name, title of book in italics, (pp. xx-xx) DOI/URL/Publisher’s name.
A website citation begins with the author’s name, year, title of the page, retrieval date and lists from the http://
In summary citations require keeping track of resources used along the way. Citations are important for giving credit as well as leading others reading your research to your sources by properly citing each journal, book and website accordingly.
