Outline
Overview
Use these solid 5 rules for creating your slides so that you can keep the student engaged, entertained, and learning!
General
- 6×6 Rule
- Use no more than 6 lines of text
- No more than 6 words per line
- Not a hard and fast rule, but a general guideline
- Ample White Space
- Leave plenty of room to write, draw, and engage
- Keep moving
- With your ample space, use it to draw
- You can use checkmarks, lines, dashes, and arrows, but…
- Don’t resolve to only doing those things – be adventurous
- Know your audience
- Who is your audience
- Speak to them, not at them
- Avoid super high-level words, unless you plan on speaking to it to explain it
- Photos for Learning
- Sometimes a single image that is drawn on is ok – just keep it moving
Assessment
Now that you’ve worked with your coach to create your outline, use the template to begin creating your PowerPoint slides. This will initially be done in Google Sheets, but then will be downloaded as a PowerPoint for screen recording.
As a general tip, each main point of your outline should be a slide in your presentation. On each slide, a few main points of discussion should be a “subpoint” of your outline. Work with your coach to create your presentation.
