Exercise
In the following lesson, listen to how the educator tells a personal story of a patient (all while protecting the patient’s privacy). Listen from 0:26-0:50.
It’s so easy for us as educators to tell students to act, be, or do certain things. But it makes us so much more relatable (and sometimes vulnerable) if we show them that we’ve lived these experiences. Students love to hear stories of our experience, and it helps to connect difficult or burdensome topics.
As you listen to the story, think about your first lesson. What’s a story that you could share during the lesson that can help you drive home important points?
