Hey guys, let’s take a look at met. Orine also known as Metin. This is an injectable medication and also an oral medication. So the therapeutic class of met Orine is an oxytocin, which is how the drug works in the body. In the pharmacologic class is an ergot ALO, which is the chemical effect of the drug. So methyl Orgon works by stimulating the uterine muscle causing uterine contraction, which is why we use it for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. So some of the side effects that we see with met Orine are things like hypertension, cramping, nausea, and vomiting.
Let’s take a look at some of the nursing considerations for met. Orine be sure to monitor the patient’s blood pressure, heart rate, uterine response in Ute bleeding, and be sure to report changes to the provider. Before you give this drug to your patient, check their calcium level, because with decreased calcium levels, the effectiveness of Meine is decreased. Along with the side effect already mentioned Meine can cause difficulty breathing in the patient. So guys, we should always be using our personal protective equipment as nurses, but it is increasingly important with giving meth Orine as this drug is known for being a haz hazardous agent. So be safe, use gloves, mask gown when administer, and in fact, this drug should be mixed under a protective hood in the pharmacy. That’s it for meth Orine or met now go out and be your best self today and as always happy nursing.
