Outline
Overview
- Begin by doing the following:
- Open Google Slides file from your Lesson Edit page by clicking “Edit”**
- Click File
- Download as Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)
- Open in PowerPoint
- Verify all font spacing/sizing is correct. (Sometimes the transition from Google Slides can make things shift)
Use Screencastify to record your screen
- In your browser, click the Screencastify extension
- Set to “Record Desktop” and ensure the correct microphone is chosen
- Click “Record”
- Choose “Screen 2” or whatever screen you are projecting to record the External Monitor only.
- It will then begin counting down from 3 (this can be adjusted in Advanced Settings).
Recording the Presentation
- Enter Slideshow mode using Presenter View
- You should have your notes on your screen and the presentation on the external monitor
- Give presentation using your notes and draw on screen with Wacom tablet
- Use command/ctrl+p to use pen tool, or select from the tool menu
- Please use ‘blue’ color
- Tip: hit command/ctrl p on each slide to have the pen ready, if you don’t and you click on your screen, you will have to restart the pen tool
What do I do if I make a mistake?
You have TWO options:
- Restart recording altogether (don’t recommend unless mistake made VERY early in the recording)
OR
- Indicate the error for the video editor by doing the following
- BE SILENT for 5 seconds — erase any writing on that slide
- State “restart this slide”
- CLAP TWICE
- BE SILENT for *another* 5 seconds
- Restart that slide as you had before
- The “clap” creates an audio SPIKE in the middle of a silence, which tells the video editors that there’s something to be deleted.
Ending the Recording
- When you have finished your recording:
- Click “Stop Sharing” at the bottom OR Navigate to browser, then
- Click Screencastify icon, and click STOP (The recording will automatically open in your browser window)
- Click on the title of the video in the top left corner, then rename the video with the name provided by Curriculum Director *(should look something like this: vi-ob-02-05-maternal_risk_factors)* –
What do I do next?
- When you’re done with your video:
- See the next lesson for exporting as MP4 and uploading to Frame.io (ALMOST DONE!)
