Today we are going to discuss some brief and useful strategies for writing that essay!!

Ahhh getting started. This truly is often times the hardest part. Getting something on paper is always a great way to start. The outline can not only help with the overwhelmed writer, but it can also really add to finding organization in the writer’s thought process and goals.

Research is a must. Too often student’s try to go it alone and miss out on ways to richen their own ideas and challenge their thinking by not doing adequate research. And be sure to take note of where your research came from. Always give credit where credit is due. And there are lots of resources (from Google extensions to websites and apps) that help store references quickly as you go. And once you have a nice body of an essay you can then begin to write your introduction and conclusion

Introductions don’t have to be long and drug out but they should set the stage and include a statement about the purpose of the essay. Each paragraph after the intro should include specific topics (stated at the beginning of each paragraph. And a conclusion neatly wraps up and summarizes the essay’s points and adds any final thoughts.

So to review, essays are not easy and often times the hardest part is getting started. Outlining your thoughts is a great way to begin the process and concisely connect your ideas. However it’s not just about your ideas, research is often key to writing a good, well informed and thought out essay. Become an expert on your topic. Do your research. the more you know the easier it will be to find relevant material to write about. Of course to forget to collect those references and give credit to those who helped you in your research. Often times introductions and conclusions are a lot more on point and effective when you do them after you’ve created your body paragraphs. Which brings us to the typical structure of an essay having an intro with a thesis statement, a body, and a conclusion.
