Nurse’s role:
- Enter verbal orders when needed
- Be familiar with EHR
- Never guess
- READ BACK
- Facilitate conversations with surgeons intraop
- Triage during critical times
Pitfalls:
- Order administratively incorrect
- Location, billing, etc
- Other options than verbal
- Lack of planning/anticipation
Examples:
- Patient changing to ICU admission (RN can arrange bed manager, ICu charge, facilitate physician report over phone or known bedside, enter order facility specific)
