Injection Injuries

 

Definition/Etiology:

Injection Injury – caused by Paint Gun/Grease Gun. When injected into the skin, release their substances into the body, usually past the skin.

 

Pathophysiology:

Paint and oil are toxic to skin and tissues so can begin causing immediate tissue injury and eventual necrosis

 

Clinical Presentation:

  • History of using paint/grease gun
  • Pain
  • Edema
  • Wound with injected material
  • Paresthesia

 

Collaborative Management:

  • Surgical Intervention ASAP!
  • Imaging
  • Labs
  • Pain management
  • Prep for OR

 

Evaluation | Patient Monitoring | Education:

  • Monitor pain
  • Monitor area for color and sensation
