Gender Equity (Inclusion, Gender Transition)
Definition/Etiology:
- Gender Equity – “respecting all people without discrimination, regardless of their gender.”
- Inclusion – treatment without favoritism or prejudice, treating all parties equally. “Inclusion is being asked to dance”
- Gender transition – individualized process of changing gender presentation in accordance with one’s gender identity
Pathophysiology:
- Gender transition – may be changing alignment with identification or may be in the process of changing sex organs. Process is individualized.
Clinical Presentation:
- Examples of gender inequity: judgement of men for working in women dominated field such as in childcare. Judgement of women working in men dominated fields such as construction.
- Gender transition – individualized, may present in various forms.
Collaborative Management:
- Create a culture where employees speak up
- Maximize diversity of councils
- Ask pronoun preference
Evaluation | Patient Monitoring | Education:
- Ensure there are processes in place where management can be notified if there is a breach in inclusion
