We use photos and drawings to engage and enhance the student’s experience, and to improve learning outcomes for students.

General

1. Draw pictures
   1. Use the process of drawing to engage and excite the user
   2. We don’t expect you to be Picasso, but we want the user to connect to the content
   3. Drawing pictures inspires visual learners to remember information, and tactile learners to draw a concept to remember it
2. Photos
   1. Use pictures that enhance teaching
      1. Never use photos as a space filler
   2. Photos should focus on the most important point or make a connection to the linchpin or the topic
      1. Sometimes photos can be used to explain a point better
   3. Make sure you use appropriately sourced photos
      1. Use websites such as Wikimedia Commons, Creative Commons, or some other free source image bank
      2. If you have questions about what to use, please reach out to your Curriculum Director
      3. Always attribute photos correctly, and per branding guidelines.
      4. Also, be aware of copyright restrictions such as cropping or manipulating the image.
3. Infographics
   1. It is completely appropriate to teach a lesson based around an infographic.
   2. Be sure to drive home connections, and use the image to improve the learning experience.
4. How to use photos or drawings in your lesson
   1. Plan accordingly
      1. If you plan to draw on a photo, use a high-quality photo that contrasts well with your pen color
      2. If you plan to draw pictures, then give yourself ample space to draw
   2. Use the drawing process to connect complex topics or to explain things more clearly.

Review & Lesson Integration

Review your lesson. Do you have photos or space to draw photos? Will they enhance the lesson? Will they distract? Do they help drive home the linchpin and make connections for the user? Also, and very importantly, are they appropriately sourced and do they follow our branding guidelines? Work with your coach to make sure that you use appropriately sourced and referenced photos.
