Bone is comprised of many different compartments and components, including spongy and compact bone. In the long bone, there are two ends, each called an epiphysis and are connected via the shaft, called a diaphysis. Within the diaphysis is the bone marrow cavity, or medullary cavity, which contains red and yellow bone marrow. Covering each end is articular cartilage, while the remaining outside of bone is covered by periosteum.
